Michael Frierson graduated from Cal Poly Pomona in 1979 with a BS Degree in Kinesiology. After a brief stint with the Seattle Mariners Professional Baseball Team, Michael spent 35 years as a Healthcare Professional in both the Pharmaceutical and ESRD realm. In his 35 years, he held several positions ranging from Sales Representative to Senior Director of Sales.
Michael has a proven record as it pertains to advocating for our younger generation. His involvement with Spectra Laboratory involved helping younger people getting promoted into middle and senior management positions; which helped improve the productivity of the organization.
Michael also volunteered his time with the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy in Compton CA. The main purpose of the Academy was to introduce young people of color to career opportunities associated with Professional Baseball.
He helped to increase the visibility of young African American Players with the potential to play at the Major League level by serving on several boards and advising sports camps leading to collegiate level play for students.
Michael’s oldest son Michael Geoffrey Frierson, was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer at age 32. After a 5-year battle with complications associated with Colorectal Cancer, he died at age 38. This was the motivating factor for his advocacy. A promise made to his son, to make sure no one under the age of 45 dies from complications associated with Colorectal Cancer. Michael is the founder of Mike Check Yur Colon; a nonprofit created to raise money to provide free screening colonoscopies to individuals under the age of 45. Michael is currently retired, and working on eradicating Colorectal Cancer.
