My name is Nandini Jagarlamudi, and I am a fourth-year undergraduate student at the University of California, Davis. I am a pre-medical student majoring in Neurobiology with a minor in Nutrition. My academic and extracurricular experiences have fostered a strong interest in the role of diet in disease prevention and long-term health, particularly as it relates to gut health.
I am passionate about increasing awareness of how everyday health concerns can be connected to broader disease risk. This interest led me to co-found Gut Gurus, a student organization at UC Davis focused on promoting gut health through evidence-based education and open scientific discussion. The organization was created in response to the many students who experience gastrointestinal symptoms without understanding their underlying causes or long-term implications, and it aims to provide accessible, reliable information that empowers students to be proactive about their health.
Through my involvement with the California Colorectal Cancer Coalition, I have gained a deeper understanding of how gut health awareness can serve as an important entry point for conversations about colorectal cancer prevention, early detection, and education. This experience has reinforced my belief that increasing awareness at a younger age is critical to reducing future disease burden.
I am committed to supporting colorectal cancer awareness efforts by promoting education and prevention initiatives on my college campus and carrying this advocacy forward into my future education and career. hope to carry this mission forward by supporting informed, proactive approaches to gut health and colorectal cancer awareness within diverse communities.
